If you thought most bridesmaids’ dresses were hideous, imagine having to wear one made of turkey feathers. For the 1948 wedding party of one Barbara Orr Ehrhart, Oregonian and turkey enthusiast extraordinaire, this unlikely scenario was, in fact, all-too-real. As the Feb. 9, 1948, issue of LIFE magazine made plain, in an engaging article titled “LIFE Goes to a Turkey Feather Wedding,” turkey was the theme of the evening at Ehrhart’s nuptials — not merely on the menu, but turkey on the attendants and on the happy bride herself.Empire Wedding Dresses
Ehrhart (left, with a friend) had a longstanding fascination with turkey feathers, for years using this unconventional fabric to make hats and accessories before spotlighting it in her own wedding dress. Half a century before Lady Gaga hit the red carpet in her infamous meat dress, Ehrhart displayed her feathered creations at local poultry shows.
After obtaining permission to get married at the Far West Turkey Show in California, the bride gathered 37,500 plumes for her dress, which was constructed over the course of several months. Her bridesmaids’ dresses were also crafted out of feathers, which she dyed pink, blue, yellow and green.
Instead of throwing rice, guests showered the newlyweds with — what else? — feathers as they exited the ceremony. And after all the talk of and emphasis on turkey had whetted their appetites, guests chowed down on a turkey dinner to cap off the night.
Today we might consider Ehrhart an early pioneer of the now-trendy “nose to tail” cooking philosophy, which seeks to eliminate waste when butchering an animal. This turkey lover clearly made good use of the birds’ feathery raiment in addition to the meat. Ehrhart did not slaughter the birds specifically for her own sartorial gain — she asserted that the 300 birds she plucked feathers from were already dead or fatally wounded.
LIFE reported that the morning after the wedding, even newlywed bliss couldn’t keep Ehrhart away from her beloved birds. She traveled to a movie set for her part in a short movie, in which she would be filmed standing amid what LIFE called “a sea of turkeys.”
Finally, if today’s readers have any concerns that Ehrhart’s proclivity for the birds would somehow overshadow (or even undermine) her marriage, they need not fear.mermaid chiffon one shoulder wedding dress The original LIFE article points out that the groom, Fred Ehrhart, who was a lumber grader in Oregon, gamely helped his fiancée create her gown. Birds of a feather, it seems, do indeed sometimes flock together.
essica Biel brought the sexy back. Not only the back, but the side boob too.
Biel stunned onlookers when she arrived on the red carpet for the Los Angeles premiere of "Hitchcock" in a backless Gucci gown on Tuesday, Nov. 20. The 30-year-old gave an eyeful of side cleavage with an upswept hairstyle, while also flaunting her athletic body with a toned back.

Nearly Newlywed is an online boutique as a way to buy wedding dresses. Jackie has a background as a fashion publicist and realized that she borrowed clothes from designers and could use the same concept with her business. She pointed out that on Nearly Newlywed was a website that basically sold used wedding dresses and guaranteed a buyback of 50% of the original cost. The inspiration came from her own wedding, because there are several women wearing her personal wedding dress for their weddings already.
Jackie claimed that while there was the thought of sentimentality, she was convinced that women today wanted better dresses. The sentimentality was what prevented Robert from really getting into the product. Barbara admitted to re-using a wedding dress. She claimed that there are options of alterations that rented dresses couldn't do. She has about 90 dresses in her inventory. She has $300K in inventory and she got it from consignment from brides and designers. She claimed that she didn't pay for her dresses until she made a profit.
Daymond was wondering about price. Jackie noted a 30-40% markup. Robert was worried that there was a personal issue with the dresses. For sales, she only has sold four dresses in 30 days. Her goal was building inventory and having a press run. Mark was worried about PR, Jackie claimed Facebook was important. She claimed that she has pieces in Martha Stewart Living and other magazines. Barbara thought it was too early to test the product and dropped out.
Daymond was interested in the bridal space, because females have no rational in thinking about the dresses and weddings, but nearly newlywed didn't fit. Mark thought that the business was too press-driven.
Corks Away was basically a wine tasting on a boat. They claimed that they had "Wine on the Water" theme but there were also beer,Can we all agree that maggie sottero wedding dress will never go out of style? mimosa, or even couples cruises. Kevin called it a "booze cruise." They have 12 cruises a week, year round. They have $250K in sales for one boat in a year. They are in a stage two (of four) for franchising, they are basically looking for a way for captains to expand their businesses. For $175K they can provide a boat and all the business instructions for a captain to begin a business partnership franchise. The boat cost $35K and the sharks were surprised that technically their business plan cost $145K. They were convinced that customer service was important.
Stage Three was the "Pesto Tort" phase where they wanted to sell the food as part of the plan. They admitted that it wasn't a large or important part of the big plan. Their stage four was to make an indoor dinner ride in Las Vegas years down the line. The sharks were stunned after hearing the remarks.
Mark's problem was the scaling of how many bays this business could get to. Robert appreciated how two friends could really get together, but there were too many flaws to get to the ride. Kevin didn't think the business was worth an investment.
The two created Tie Try as the Netflix for ties. Just like the DVD rental service, the Ties would be borrowed and then returned for a monthly fee. They only launched a few months ago and used free press. They have 110 subscribers as a proof of concept. Kevin wondered where value was added. The duo pointed out a two tie a month program that was $15.99 a month. If you wore a tie and returned it quickly they could make a large savings. They were looking for a referral program they were hoping to expand to other men's accessories.
The duo has an 85% renewal rate at the moment. Mark was worried about getting free press and losing the 15%. The subscription model is an interesting model, but Robert was worried about the subscriber base. Scott was convinced that he could go on a tour to sell ties. There were also college representatives hoping to work for the company.Search our wedding photo gallery for thousands of the best mother of the bride dresses pictures. Kevin decided to put in half the money and hoped to have another shark jump in. Barbara knew the "young guy" market was the great area, but she disliked how small the company was at the moment. Daymond didn't hear a word about the beauty of fashion and was immediately out after there was no passion.
The military professor created a product after he was in Afganistan. The product was originally made for Marine Spec Ops. The item was a shot that provided nutrition. The product provided caffine-free energy, which was great for snipers.
Kevin loved the story for servicemen, but wondered how to translate the product to the everyday person. Rob admitted that he created the prodict to cater to other military personnel. There were small independent stores that sold the product, but needed more money to create more product.
The name "Ruckpack" derived from the bag that carries all the gear that a military person needed, not wanted. The product wasn't endorced by Marines. Rob pointed out that there were proprietary ingredients but some ingredients had to be released. Robert wondered about how the product would get out to the general public. Rob pointed out that the product was "healthy. When The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -Kristen Stewart's Breaking quinceanera dresses red and black, designed by Carolina Herrera." Rob is a currently working as an accounting professor for the miliraty. He has two and a half years teaching, but he spends the rest of his time on Ruckpack.
Rob wanted scale and manufacturing with the money he was looking for. Each product costs about 85 cents and sold for $1.65 wholesale. There was no inventory and he had to pay 50% ahead of time. He put in about $95K of his own money in. There are sixteen owners and he and his wife owns 45%. The company spent about $240K, money was spent for R&D and websites. They have a caffenated version as well in inventory. Rob's issue was filling existing sales. Robert was worried about the money not being able to invested in a cycle. Daymond has a similar product and dropped. Mark was worried about how he wasn't fully invested in the product because of his teaching status.Shop the latest collection of cheap demetrios wedding dresses made in china from the most popular stores - all in one place.FREE GIFT and SHIPPING plus price match guarantee with your beautiful cheap mother of the bride dresses.

The stand-out pitch from week ten of this season’s Shark Tank was for Nearly NewlyWed, an online retailer of used wedding dresses. The founder, Jackie Courtney, sells used, high-end wedding dresses on consignment, like a Marchsea Bridal dress that retails for $11,000 at $3,800, and guarantees to buy it back for $1,900. The site promises to make dresses available to brides for around 20% less than the retail price if she sells it back after the wedding. Nearly NewlyWed targets a 30-40% margin on the dress sale.
Courtney was previously a fashion publicist. Press coverage generated her initial traffic and sales, but social referral via Facebook is now her biggest traffic driver. The business has only been open for 30 days and has sold four of their first 30 dresses in inventory. They just added another 60 dresses to inventory, sourcing them from brides and stylists. Although Nearly NewlyWed is very new, I think that there is something to the business.D emetrios has unveiled the catalog of his collection of Wedding Dress Shops. Hoping for the best for their marriages, lets assume that customers will only buy one gown from Nearly NewlyWed. If we take the bottom end of her ranges for price and margin, at a $2,000 average sales price, assuming a 30% margin, she has $600 of lifetime value to play with. Her customer acquisition to date has been through PR. But I suspect that even at her high price point, she can get customer acquisition costs down into the $100-200 range through online channels. That gives her a lot of room to cover overhead. If she can continue with her capital-light approach of taking gowns on consignment, I think that there are real legs to the business idea.
As the old saying goes though, retail is detail. All businesses require strong execution, but this is particularly true in e-commerce. The real question is whether Courtney has the operational expertise in the three core ecommerce functions of merchandising, marketing and operations, or if she can attract it to her company. Right now it is just her, so it is too early to tell, but this was one of the most interesting companies that I've seen pitch on Sharktank.
Courtney was right to turn down O'Leary's offer, 40% is too much equity to give up at this stage. She can probably continue to expand inventory (which should increased conversion rate and sales) by herself without any additional capital. She can clearly keep driving PR and social traffic, and should start to experiment with paid acquisition channels at relatively low cost. When The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -Kristen Stewart's Breaking quinceanera dresses red and black, designed by Carolina Herrera. And since the initial volume is low, she can fulfill out of her apartment for a while. If she sees promising results after a couple of quarters of this approach, she should be able to raise a small seed round from individual investors or small funds to take it to the next level.
There's this couple I heard about. You won't believe their wedding plans. For starters, you should know that they're young, early 20s. The bride wants a big, fancy, wedding at this expensive hotel. She wants the groom to wear a top hat and tails and her veil is like 10 feet long.High quality trumpet wedding dresses and simple plus size wedding dresses with short sleeves is on sale at cheap prices from Chinese wedding dresses wholesaler. The groom is basically an orphan, and he works for the bride's dad. It's not like her family is loaded, they're self-employed and struggling to put together a family business. Oh, and get this, they just met like six months ago.
Totally unrealistic right? Especially in this economy. Just another example of how today's brides are being ruined by reality TV and how people put so much effort into the wedding that the marriage can't possibly survive. Right?
Except that the couple above was my grandparents, and they had their fancy wedding in 1936 -- during The Great Depression. They were married for 70 years before they died within months of each other. They raised three sons, had nine grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. By all accounts they had a normal, happy, successful marriage.
Why do I mention all of this? Because I've been wondering lately about how much hate is directed towards weddings in general, and specifically, big or fancy weddings. I've been writing for a wedding blog for over four years now. Usually,2013 spring gorgeousbridesmaid dresses 2012. on a wedding blog you don't get a lot of push back about the idea of a wedding, even a big one.Can we all agree that maggie sottero wedding dress will never go out of style? But, any time you see an article about weddings on a general site (even Huffington Post) you also see a lot of negative comments.
About 10 per cent of the comments on a wedding article will be from people who think the whole idea of getting married is a joke. Why these people are reading articles about weddings and marriage is a mystery. Then, there will be a large chunk of comments from those who want you to know that they did not do anything as foolish as having a big wedding. They and their spouse spent $500 or less on their wedding, in their parents' backyard, and they've been married for over 20 years. These people want to know why today's couples can't be more like them. Why today's weddings are so big.
I get it. I too got married in a second hand dress at a park. On my mantlepiece I have a picture of my DIY Hippie-Dippy wedding right next to my grandparents' "Downton Abbey"-worthy extravaganza. If you had to guess, based on those pictures, which of us would go on to make a career in the wedding business, it wouldn't be me! But, do I think my marriage will be longer lasting or happier than my grandparents because I spent less money on my wedding? No, I do not.Get great fashion ideas and the latest trends for One-Shoulder Wedding Dresses.
I think we all make different decisions about where to spend our money for different reasons. My grandparents were immigrants. Perhaps they wanted a big, fancy wedding to show that they had made it in America, that they were here to stay. Perhaps they were trying to keep up with the Joneses in their small upstate New York town. Maybe my great-grandfather saw the big wedding as a business investment, a chance to show off for clients. Maybe, in the face of the Great Depression, the ongoing massacre of their relatives in the Holocaust, and the impending doom of World War II, they just wanted a reason to celebrate. Or maybe, my grandmother just knew how devastatingly handsome my grandfather would be in that top hat.
Some people see a big wedding as a great way to honor their friends and family, treat them to a fantastic day,Shop the latest collection of cheap demetrios wedding dresses made in china from the most popular stores - all in one place. and involve them in their marriage. Putting the guests and their needs at the center of the wedding is one of the big trends for 2013 weddings.
Some people see a small, intimate wedding as a great way to honor their relationship, to focus on the relationship instead of material goods, and yes, to save money for other things.
Both kinds of weddings are great, as long as they make the couple happy.
There's nothing about a big wedding that guarantees a happy marriage. But, there's also nothing about a big wedding that dooms a marriage.

An Iowan, I came to Flagstaff in August 2009 to pursue my master's degree. I left behind the ease of familiarity, my family and most of all, my boyfriend (Terrance) of six years. We had not been separated for longer than overnight, and I didn't know a soul in Flagstaff.
I became engrossed in my graduate studies and I soon needed an outlet. I enjoyed running but in Iowa we always ran on pavement. Northern Arizona Trail Runners Association, (NATRA), had an informative website, but trail running? Wouldn't you just end up hiking most of the time?
A sucker for novelty and a good workout, I gave it a shot. I was nervous, but on my first NATRA run everybody smiled and greeted me with warmth. The scenery was astounding and I learned of trails all throughout Flagstaff and Sedona. Soon, NATRA became my family and I was hooked. As one of the diehards, I ran during pounding rains, paralyzing cold and blinding blizzards. It was often after these forays into the wrath of nature (as well as human absurdity,) during the well-deserved post-run coffee, that we would conjure grandiose plans for epic running adventures. I would be missing out on a lot of the traditions girls sometimes tend to dream about. Then I thought, "How happy did my friends in the throes of wedding planning seem to be?" Honestly, they seemed downright miserable and some even regularly broke down in tears. Did I really want a meticulously contrived event and burden for all involved? Heck no, I just wanted to celebrate our union with family and community. How much does it take to do that? After some convincing, my fiancé agreed!
Our marriage at Soulstice was beautifully non-conventional. There were no wedding invitations,5 Don'ts Of mermaid chiffon one shoulder wedding dress Shopping! and while we knew some of the audience, they all seemed like family. Terrance wore a tux T-shirt and I wore a white tennis dress instead of a gown. We also had a wedding cake shaped like a Nintendo. As I took Terrance's hand in front of Judge Moran under the most beautiful of autumn skies, I had the largest, happiest wedding party any girl could wish for. Looking into Terrance's eyes and telling him that I loved him and promising to always stand by his side amidst the warmth and cheers of our family in our home-away-from-home, was a dream come true.
Gerald and Lisa got engaged over Christmas in 2009 at Residence private members' club on Stephen's Green in Dublin.
Lisa had previously been engaged to boxer Joe Egan and, more famously, to Irish dancing legend Michael Flatley.
I met Lisa for the first time in 2006 at the Marbella Ball. She had just split with Flatley and was the talk of the ball. Equal parts Aphrodite, Ursula Andress and busty Bet Lynch,Average Cost for Beach Wedding Dresses? she stole the limelight in a cream-and-lace outfit from Harvey Nichols. She was quite emotionally frail and thin-skinned (which she remains still) but very likeable and personable.
I remember an extraordinary conversation in the Merrion Hotel that we had on the evening before Flatley's wedding in Castlehyde to Niamh O'Brien.Shop the latest collection of cheap demetrios wedding dresses made in china from the most popular stores - all in one place. It was extraordinary mainly because Lisa was engaged to Flatley only eight months before (and engaged to him for four years). Lisa's mother Eileen waited for her in the car outside as we talked
"To be quite honest," she said of Flatley, "I had my time with him and I have moved on. I am happy for him and I hope he will be happy. I wish them all the best."
I said that surely a part of you must think it was strange that a man you were engaged to eight months ago is getting married now? Do you not think that it should have been you walking up the aisle?
"I don't look at it like that," Lisa answered. "I feel everything happens for a reason. It has just gone that way, you know, and it just wasn't meant to be. I wouldn't be crying over spilt milk. It is not about that. Things happen in life. And you just accept it and move on. So I don't have any feelings as regards the wedding day."

While the former child star is used to being in the public eye, Nikki admits that she couldn't have been more nervous about walking down the isle.
"Put me in front of 1000 people to perform, and I'm fine. Make me say vows and a speech and I'm a wreck," Nikki tells Woman's Day.
"I'm also the clumsiest girl ever. I said to Dad, ‘You better hold me up in case I trip over my dress!'"
Nikki wore a princess-inspired Arushie gown designed by herself and arrived at the church in a bronze-coloured Rolls Royce.
"I felt beautiful in the dress," says Nikki. "Like a princess. I couldn't wait for Matt to see me in it."
Matt surprised his fiance with a fairytale grand entrance of a horse and carriage - just as her mother and grandmother did for their weddings - but a technical hitch on the roads meant she couldn't travel to the church in it.
The pair met on a blind date on Australia Day in 2010 and Matt popped the question in Fiji last January.
Nikki's grandparents flew in from the UK to be there for the special day.

“I'm seeing light at the end of the tunnel,” she said.
Though Milton and Grace no longer live in Bonton, they plan to move back as soon as possible. They want to help restore the place they call home. And they hope their wedding will remind others it's possible to start fresh.
At their wedding Saturday, everyone was invited.Shop the latest collection of cheap demetrios wedding dresses made in china from the most popular stores - all in one place. Some friends and relatives sat in white folding chairs wearing cocktail dresses and suits. But most of those congregated were neighbors who wandered over from the community celebration nearby in the park. They wore jeans and I Love Bonton T-shirts.
In front of everyone, Milton stood holding Grace's hand with both of his. He placed a ring on her finger and said he'd follow her anywhere she wants to go. Grace put the past behind them as she did the same.
