AHH, the holidays: Hanukkah parties, Christmas parties, New Year's parties ... surely your sewing machines are threaded and ready by now; your shimmering yards of taffeta and satin all measured, pinned and cut. Of course not. In this age of ready-to-wear, most of us leave sewing to the professionals. Nonetheless, a growing number of nostalgic hobbyists lately seek to revive the magic and glamour of other eras, stitching together their frocks to create looks not found on the rack.

Guiding this trend are Nora Abousteit, a founder of BurdaStyle.com, and Jamie Lau, whose ring-bound full-color book, “BurdaStyle Sewing Vintage Modern,” holds detailed instructions and actual sewing patterns that conjure a “tapestry of voices and stories, memories from the past that shape our present style.”

Following their lead, anyone with a Singer and nimble fingers can whip up a homage to Garbo, like a delicate 1930s-style day dress with a capelet, or pay tribute to the '60s with Jackie Kennedy A-line shifts, Twiggy trapeze dresses or, for men, a George Harrison Mandarin collar jacket. One can fast-forward to the '80s to resurrect a Madonna bustier.

For would-be seamstresses and designers who seek cinematic inspiration to guide their stitching, “Decades,” an outsize, lavishly photographed book by the Hollywood vintage couture pundit and boutique owner Cameron Silver, provides an alluring visual record of how a legend wears her clothes.

In these pages, Joan Crawford appears in sultry black-and-white, elegant but menacing in a backless cream gown, gripping her own arm so hard with her lacquered nails that you wonder if she drew blood. Her power, Mr. Silver observes, came from “her ability to look domineering and intimidating one moment, exquisitely feminine the next.” A still of smoky-eyed Anne Bancroft as Mrs. Robinson in “The Graduate” (1960) comes with the author's commentary: “With her skins and streaks, pencil skirts and lace, Mrs. Robinson might as well have been dressed by Dolce and Gabbana.”

And a shot of Jodie Foster, with “rosy cheeks, Cupid's bow lips, and pin-curled hair,” in “Taxi Driver,” when she was barely a teenager, beguiles with her pale pink, lace-trimmed shirt and white short-shorts with studs at the beltline. The coy Victorian libertine look that rippled through the '70s had more charm than contemporary spandex and Lycra, Mr. Silver suggests, though it was no less louche.

Daring D.Newest and hottest Wedding Dresses at www.onbridals.com !I.Y. types who want to inject their wardrobes with old-style glamour don't need to drop by Los Angeles to inspect Mr. Silver's curated collection of gowns, or to dish out a lot of dough; they can snap up muumuus at local vintage stores, and upgrade them from frumpy to frolicsome. Marisa Lynch's plucky, high-spirited “New Dress a Day” shows how with “Dressipes” that explain what tools and trim are needed for each sartorial suggestion she makes, and before-and-after snapshots of her projects.

The book grew out of Ms. Lynch's popular blog in which she challenged herself to make 365 dresses in 365 days for $1 each. The book showcases her successes, like the “Lucille Ball” look, for which she took a baggy polka-dot dress, snipped off its sleeves, ran the new armholes through a sewing machine and voilà, bonbon time. A yellow maxi-length floral dress didn't even need a needle to be put out of its misery — scissors and fusible tape (“stitch witchery,” Ms. Lynch calls it) turned it into a fetching short number, perfect to wear while swanning down Bedford Avenue.

Sometimes not even scissors are needed. A belt or brooch can give a sack dress a waist, and a spotted white blouse can emerge from a dye bath utterly transformed as a lustrous red Bordeaux. “I just love that magical moment when you open the lid and there's a whole new shirt!” Ms. Lynch exults. Most usefully she devotes a full chapter to rehabilitating bridesmaids' gowns, shearing off hideous ruffles to transform horror stories (turquoise sateen mermaid dresses, Pepto-Bismol-pink strapless sheaths that looked like terry bath wraps) into happy endings. “Beyond those sleeves is a party dress waiting to happen!” she declares.

Before there can be a bridesmaids dress, there must be a bride; and because the winter holidays are a time when a preponderance of proposals get made, “Style Me Pretty Weddings” may come in handy in the new year. The nuptials blogger Abby Larson, who has blogged about more than 5,000 “real weddings” on her Web site, has drawn hundreds of images and ideas from her vast reportage into a sourcebook intended to help couples celebrate with élan.

Her book is dedicated, she writes, to “all of the brides who find themselves awake at 2 a.m., searching the Web for birdcage veils and signature cocktail recipes. May this be a place of happy.” The book proceeds two-by-two, wedding after wedding, highlighting the personal touches chosen by each pair (did you know there was a flower called Craspedia?) so that legions of starry-eyed but innovation-challenged imitators may copy them. “Don't doubt how important the little details are,” one bride vows, beneath a snapshot of a young ring bearer hoisting a “mazel tov” bunting banner (scored from Etsy).Custom made cheap mother of the bride dresses?Browse hundreds of beautiful designer beaded evening gowns and find the perfect fit for you! “

EastEnders' Max Branning could be facing the axe from Tanya Branning over the festive period.

The crafty car salesman - who is portrayed by Jake Wood - has been harbouring a huge mystery secret from his fiancée (Jo Joyner) and when the details are revealed moments before the couple are about to tie the knot over Christmas, it sends their big day into doubt.oscar dresses 2012

A show insider told the Daily Star newspaper: ''Tanya will get into her wedding dress but whether she makes it down the aisle is another matter altogether.''

Jake admits it will be a ''huge'' revelation when Max's mysterious secret is divulged, and some of the cast have only just found out what he has been up to.

He told the Radio Times magazine: ''For most of the year, only a handful of us have known about Max's secret. We have kept it quiet.

''When we came to film Christmas, the rest of the cast became privy to the news and jaws have been hitting the floor.corset and tulle wedding dresses If we're getting that reaction within the cast, it's going to be huge when it's revealed to the viewers.''

Max and Tanya's wedding was originally due to take place on Christmas Eve (24.12.12) but it is put back until Christmas Day (25.12.12), and Jake cannot wait to watch the action unfold.

He added: ''The wedding is postponed until Christmas Day. And that's when the drama will unfold. I will be sitting down with the rest of the country and watching on the edge of my seat.''

Thank you for the lovely story in today’s D-H (Dec. 10, 2012) about the wedding dress display during United Presbyterian Church’s participation in the annual Albany Christmas Parlour Tour. Ms. Moody and Mr. Skoubo captured the essence of the occasion in a wonderful way, and we appreciated their professionalism.

I feel somewhat embarrassed to have been so extensively quoted,www.onbridals.com when credit for all the hard work of organizing and mounting the display really goes to the indefatigable, unflappable and modest Carol Harrison, with the support of her husband, historian and centennial-year co-chair Glenn Harrison. I simply happened to be taking my turn as a docent when Ms. Moody was there.

Thanks so much for your coverage. I know that everyone at UPC really appreciates it.

In the more recent olden days, those planning to make full use of this "privilege" were expected to go around in red petticoats as a visible warning. And old postcards show crazy-eyed women falling over themselves to trap men in butterfly nets as they chant terrifying mantras like:

Leap year is come, oh joy, there's no escape my boy. Come off your perch [note to reader: man is hiding up in tree] and don't tarry; THIS IS THE TIME FOR US TO MARRY.

A small homegrown survey revealed several of my girlfriends would happily propose. Said one: "I would! Probably because I am a producer control freak, but also because I never saw it as gender specific. Also, I have never imagined a fairytale, traditional wedding, which usually begins with Prince Charming with all his money and great hair proposing.Halter Wedding Dresses"

A friend's sister proposed to her now-husband. But: "She's got some pretty interesting stories about other people's reactions to her following that news.high low prom dresses"

A happily married school friend's wife proposed three times before he said yes: "she knew it was right before I did," he said. "In fact, she asked me after a week - which surprisingly didn't scare me off."

And my favourite of all: "My friend did it with Polaroids and lipstick and her fiancé is the happiest man alive."

I'm surrounded by street children.

I guess I should have expected the attention. Plus, not only am I super white and quite overtly American, but I have lots of expensive crap — cameras, microphones, oscar dresses 2012 tripods — hung,Halter Wedding Dresses tucked and wedged all over me.

It's the prospect of dollar bill handouts and sheer curiosity that acts as a black hole, sucking in all the eyes of the busiest place I've ever seen.  corset and tulle wedding dresses This curiosity is not always benign either, but I'll get to that.

Bush Bazaar: The busiest bazaar in the center of Kabul is truly fascinating. Two stories, sometimes three, all around, and walking room only, unless you're the cops or the UN. I'd been to another bazaar already on my trip, but this one is much denser and much more populated. If not the busiest on earth, it must be the busiest bazaar in town.

The attention makes it hard for me to shoot video. With so many people looking into the camera, or at the camera, it's hard to get a natural look. Plus, I'm using a wide angle and it's difficult because people gather around where they perceive themselves to be outside the shot, and, generally speaking, they're not outside the shot.

Eventually, I gather so much attention that my fixer, Mubine advises we go into a shop and interview a businessman.

We sip tea and chat. He tells me how the American presence sells more wedding dresses (secure women are more apt to accept marriage proposals). Then we pay the man and leave.

We shoot more video in the bazaar, until Mubine spots a good interview: this little kid, a street hustler, no older than 7 or 8. The fixer knows my story well, so he can mark a good interview.

We walk through a maze of side streets to get "somewhere safe," as Mubine puts it.

Another funny detail: In Afghanistan you can just interview random kids if you want. I mean, we literally walk about a quarter mile through almost Slumdog type, narrow side streets with this kid in tow and nobody thinks twice about it.

Do that in the US, and you'll either get sued or tossed in jail. It's an epic interview, high low prom dresses open, honest insights I'd never have found anywhere else.www.onbridals.com (later, I'll discover that the mic came loose and I only got the first five minutes of audio), and afterward I reach into my pocket to tip the kid.

In NYU: they taught us never to pay for interviews. In the third world: that's just how you it's done (most of the time).

A lot of these people live hand-to-mouth, so taking 15 minutes from them during the day is like taking money out of their pockets. The businessman, not so much, and I didn't have to pay him. But farmers, phone card hocking street urchins, yes, you have to pay them for interviews.

Sitting in her wedding dress, a woman wears an Iron Man mask, wedding dresses from china surrounded by wild foliage, a plastic python peeking over her shoulder, an apple in her hand and a Dali-esque lobster at her feet.

If you are into a minimal aesthetic, then Anna Bean's surreal scenes will not be to your tastes.

However, she has plenty of fans. In fact, her fanbase has been growing rapidly since she worked with Mercury Prize- nominated band Guillemots on their latest album cover.

"It was quite daunting. The first time I went to London to meet them, they had hired all this fancy dress," Anna said.

"It was all a bit weird.A-Line Wedding Dresses"

It wasn't the costumes that fazed her, as Anna routinely gets her subjects to monkey around in masks, but working with strangers under such tight time constraints was new to the photographer.

There were no second chances to get the right shot.

Anna said: "On the train coming back I was really panicked, looking at the pictures, thinking 'have I got it?'

"I tweeted Fyfe (Dangerfield, lead singer) the photo and he loved it so that put my mind at rest."

The collaboration came about after the band played at Fruit in Humber Street, Hull, this year and Fyfe spotted Anna's work.

He bought one of her pieces tquinceanera dresses red and blackhen sent her a long email, heaping praise on her and asking her to shoot their next couple of album covers.

She created the cover for their album Hello Land! which was released last May. The band were photographed in a springtime floral theme.

Anna said it was exciting to think of how many people will have seen her photo, especially a certain music legend.

"Paul Weller was on BBC Radio 6 and said the last album he'd bought was Guillemots and he really loved it," Anna said.

"I'm a big fan and it was amazing that he owns something I've done."

Anna, 48, takes inspiration more from oils than celluloid. Looking at old masters, she mimics the shades of traditional paintings and hangs her work in regal gilt frames.

Pop culture references spring up throughout her work – Jane Fonda's Barbarella is transposed to the industrial backdrop of Paul. Romance novelist Barbara Cartland has a menacing makeover in some of her latest work.

"I like to use oversaturated colours to draw in the viewer with glossy, pretty pictures but then there is something unsettling about them, cheap mother of the bride dresses" she said.

"It is like the things we choose to forget from childhood, such as dolls and clowns.

"It is what you thought might be hiding under your bed."

The creative juices never stop flowing and Anna continually works on new ideas. Luckily, she has plenty of outlets to show them off.

She is currently showing work at the Being In HU5 exhibition at Union Mash Up in Princes Avenue, west Hull. It is a collective show which turned into a family affair when her son Louis, 17, got involved.

Exhibiting his illustrations for the first time, bridesmaid dresses 2012 the teen, who is studying art at A level, inherited his mum's passion for creativity. Anna obviously gives her son help and guidance but that is not her only teaching role. She has her own students to inspire, when she works part-time at Hull College, teaching photography.

This week kind of felt like a cross over episode of Gossip Girl since everyone was tied up in police antics and I'm pretty sure they used the Law and Order: SVU set for this sit down between Nate and his dad.

This wasn't even the most exciting part. It was the last few seconds of the episode, when Bart Bass died, again, this time for
realsies.

But enough of this ridiculous plot summary, it's time to get to the fashion. It was the penultimate episode of Gossip Girl and, we have to admit — everyone really served up some awesome style this episode.

Class is in session, wedding dresses from china upper east siders:

1. We can't stress enough how bitches must wear spikes.
Every week Georgina Sparks looks fierce with some sort of spiky jewelry. This thorny shoulder look helps you tell the world, bridesmaid dresses 2012 “Don't even side hug me or you'll get cut,A-Line Wedding Dresses bitch.”

2. Wear a little bit of lace on everything this season.
As Serena packs for her secret trip to Los Angeles so she can escape her bad press (because there's no paparazzi or problems in L.A.!), she wore an outfit that was rather noteworthy. While the shirt is a little lacking, the lace skirt and tights compliment one another well. Also, incorporating a little bit of lace on each piece of clothing is sexy without being slutty.

3. When you and your gal pals go to a gala to ruin someone's life – wear something sparkly.
It's a Care Bear stare of bitchiness that the ladies of Gossip Girl are serving, and each one has a chance to shine. The only one that doesn't look fabulous is the youngest girl (on the far right), Sage, who looks way too old in that all sequin gown. Her and Blair should've switched dresses, but apparently on the upper east side looking like a young Blanche Devereaux is what the kids are into.

4. Statement pieces are so last year, this year it's all about exclamation pieces.
Sure, we were all excited by Pantone's color of the year as emerald, quinceanera dresses red and black but no one as much as Georgina Sparks. This necklace is giant, and while it didn't slow down her propensity for bitchery, it did make us do a double take.cheap mother of the bride dresses And if that didn't catch your eye there's also a giant cuff bracelet that screams for your attention.

5. Couples should always pick an accent color to share.
Is there any love greater than Chuck and Blair? Of course there is. But is there any couple more stylish? Perhaps the Beckhams. But really these two know how to dress together. Blair has this bright dress with purple stars and Chuck's purple shirt really helps draw your eye back and forth between this crazy couple.

That's all for this week. Tune in next week when we will hopefully show you beautiful wedding gowns from both Blair and Serena.

After the Big Day, the wedding dress is often tucked away until a younger woman in the family asks to see it. Imagine one woman's shock when she discovered that the dress she'd been storing for 26 years wasn't hers.

Kim Jones recently took her wedding dress out of its box for the first time since her 1986 wedding, she told The Tennessean. But Jones and her daughter, Emily, quickly realized that something was amiss when they noticed that the dress had sleeves.his elegant selection of cheap demetrios wedding dresses made in china will have you looking stunning for the big day! Jones' dress didn't.

The mix-up may have happened when Jones' mother took the dress to be dry-cleaned after the wedding; the dress appears the same when looking through the box's clear window, so no one noticed it was actually the wrong one.

Emily hopes her mother's original dress can be returned so she can wear it at her own wedding.

“As the only girl in the family, this is the one thing that my mother had for me," she said. "To find out that it wasn't hers after all these years was very disappointing."

Jones isn't the first woman to lose her wedding dress. An Iowa woman is looking for the owner of a dress found in the middle of the street, and an Australian bride sold chocolate to raise money for a new dress after hers was lost after a local bridal boutique closed up shop.Online shopping for custom made designer china wholesale bridesmaid dresses.

DESPITE her love for textiles and fashion, Victoria and Albert Museum curator Edwina Ehrman had never longed to work on an exhibition about wedding dresses.

So when she joined London's prestigious museum in 2007 and was asked to take on exhibition, Unveiled: 200 years of wedding glamour, Ehrman had to be talked into the role, and soon became glad she did agree to it.

“I was told by a much older colleague that every fashion curator should do an exhibition about wedding dresses because they learn so much from it, and she was right,Dennis Basso Sweetheart wedding dresses made in china wholesale with Dropped Waist in Organza.” Ehrman explained.

“I started to do some research and found there was a lot of hidden history there that needed unpicking.”

Unveiled looks at the history of the wedding dress, beginning in the 1820s when white had become the fashionable colour of choice for wealthy women and traces all the way through to present-day designs worn by celebrities.

There are 65 wedding outfits and accessories of both brides and bridegrooms in the touring exhibition,If you still have no idea about where to purchase chiffon bridesmaid dress, you can see it here. each piece meticulously chosen not just for its place in history, but also the person and story behind it.

“There were lots of reasons to include a dress, but one of my criteria was I wanted to know who wore it and find out as much as possible about this person, which in doing so helps bring the dress to life,” Ehrman said.

One such dress is the violet taffeta Vivienne Westwood couture gown worn by Dita Von Teese in her 2005 Irish wedding to Marilyn Manson.

Accessories include a beautiful tri-corned velvet hat with a fetching veil and mink pompoms created by British milliner Stephen Jones, Christian Louboutin shoes in matching dress fabric and a Mr Pearl custom-made corset petticoat – the biggest Ehrman has ever seen.

“We're incredibly grateful to Dita for lending us her dress as it's absolutely spectacular and provides a real wow factor toward the end of the exhibition,” the curator said.

“The best description of her was in American Vogue who said she was like an 18th century figure who'd come to life.”

“Military spouses are just as brave as their significant others,” said Shirley Fraser. “Most girls dream of that big wedding sometime in their life,What exactly is a formal office dresses for women? and we wanted to be a part of that experience for them.”

Fraser owns Bravura Bridal and Prom, and has three stores around Atlanta. On Nov. 15- 16, at the Avenues Forsyth location, Fraser and her staff welcomed military brides and brides-to-be with open arms in hopes to help them find a wedding dress for their special day.

Over 20 brides came to Bravura for makeovers and possibility for finding the dress, which were given for free.

Samantha Winnemore found her dress in the first try. “I learned about what Bravura was doing and how I would get a free wedding dress because of it, my first reaction was to cry.Browse hundreds of beautiful designer beaded evening gowns and find the perfect fit for you! The fact that someone would go to such great lengths to give out hundreds of free wedding gowns all over the United States is unheard of,” she said.

The initiative is in partnership with Brides Across America, which started in 2007 in New Hampshire. The program has grown nationwide and to date has given over 5,000 wedding dresses to military brides.

In 2011, Samantha Winnemore, 20, had a courthouse wedding with her then-fiancé Justin, who is in the 75th Ranger Regiment at Fort Benning, Georgia. “With his deployments, trainings, and life just always happening, we were never able to sit down and actually plan a wedding,” said Winnemore.

Although no date has been set for Winnemore's wedding day, finding her dress lets her feel one step closer to sharing that special day with family and friends.

“We are in the fashion business and that is what we know. By taking our skills and helping these women find their wedding dresses and making them feel like princesses, even if for one day, we used what we know to make a difference in their lives,” shared Fraser. “If we all take what we know and find a small way to give back, we can really start to change the community. If you still have no idea about where to purchase chiffon bridesmaid dress, you can see it here.”

In contrast, the dress on display from 1947 has no lace at all, Ilyin pointed out. Europe was still reeling from the effects of World War II, and the lace manufacturers weren't back up to speed.

In the January issue of Marie Claire magazine, Lea Michele discusses her adoration of breasts -- well actually, her obsession with her own.

“These babies are great," the "Glee" star joked, pointing to her chest, according to the magazine. "They are my prizewinners."

"For a while they were out and about, showing off on Broadway every night, then they came to L.A. and were like, ‘No one else looks like me here!'" Michele continued. "They were nervous to make their appearance but feel they've earned their place. So they asked if they could come out, and I was like, ‘All right, you guys.' They definitely rose to the occasion, so I'm going to continue to give them more opportunities. What Is Appropriate high neck wedding dresses gowns?”

But let's be honest, Michele isn't the only star who embraces her 'girls.'

From Britney Spears to Dolly Parton, here are 16 celebrities who are in love with their chests.

We've seen a lot of out-there ensembles on Miley Cyrus recently — denim jumpsuits, bra tops, visible lingerie — but the outfit she wore in Hollywood on Saturday night definitely trumped them all.

Performing with DJ/producer Borgore at Christmas Creampies concert at the Fonda Theatre, Cyrus opted for high-waisted pants and knee-high snakeskin boots, a peekaboo bra top and lots of gold accessories. She finished the look with an even shorter version of her bright blonde ‘do, which she originally debuted over the summer.

Cyrus's style has evolved somewhat this year; she started 2012 in full-on glamour mode, looking grown-up and gorgeous at the Oscars. As time went on,Shop for high quality wedding dresses from china dress products ! she got a bit more revealing, showing some skin on the red carpet at The Hunger Games premiere and more famously, the Billboard Music Awards.

It's an intimate look into your taste, your level of romanticism and the things and people you love. It's much more than the décor; in fact, your attire, menu, invitations, transportation, guests' dress code,Dennis Basso Sweetheart wedding dresses made in china wholesale with Dropped Waist in Organza. time of day, favours and flowers are all indicators of your wedding's style. The selection of your venue plays a significant role in highlighting this.

Your style can be: formal, semi formal or informal (casual). A more formal style lends itself to a more formal venue—such as a stately home, ballroom, castle/historical venue or well-manicured gardens. Villas, museums and large halls are well suited for semi-formal weddings. Casual-styled weddings can happen on the beach, in a backyard, at home, at an art gallery,The Junior Bridesmaid Dresses. Prioritise—There are certain aspects of a venue you might prefer, for example: ambiance, vicinity to the sea, a superb chef, accommodation facilities for foreign guests, good spots for photo opportunities or, perhaps, secluded enough for loud music. Not every venue may fulfill your wish list but be sure that at least you get what's top on your list of priorities.

Is it the right budget fit?—On the surface, some venues may seem to mesh perfectly with your budget. However, be aware of any hidden costs that can spike your budget, such as: service charges, dismount charges, rental fees, corkage fees, cake-cutting fees or any type of security deposits.

Easy logistics—Try to have your reception venue as close as possible to your ceremony venue. Half-an-hour to an hour's drive should be the maximum...and less would be better. This will also save on transportation costs.

Flexibility—Many couples will require a certain amount of flexibility from the venue, particularly in terms of: set-up time, décor permissions and food and beverage.
